Our first ever FAMILY FUN DAY was proudly hosted at Eltham Veterinary Practice, 644 Main Road Eltham on the 12th April this year. All the Eltham Veterinary Practice staff were there to meet, greet and mingle with the pets and people of our wonderful community.

The focus was on primary school and pre-school aged children, and their pets and families.

Attendees were greeted on their way into the hospital with face painting and rock painting. When the last of our guests had left, our girls thought they’d give the facepainting a go too, and you can see the result!!!

We had “Luke from Euk” (anuba) discussing optimal nutrition for pets, and Frank our wildlife carer talking about how he looks after the local wildlife, taking pickups from 17 different veterinary practices in the NorthEast of Melbourne.

Dog trainer Sarah Macdonald from Canine Comprehension who does a great job running our Puppy School and Adolescent Dog training had her Marquis set up behind the main practice building where she ran a golf session for puppies and halter training sessions and.

Tours of the hospital were run by our younger vets Mina and Mel, and receptionists Deb and Renee.

Gus and Julianne manned the Sausage Sizzle and our Veterinary Nurses Tara and Amanda demonstrated some of our great hospital equipment to interested onlookers and also what being gowned up as a surgeon was like.

With the help of Amanda and Tara, a number of children used our video-endoscope to remove Lollies from our sick Teddy Bear “Millie”, whilst another Teddy “Billy”was being operated on, on our operating table. His exploratory abdominal surgery also revealed a belly full of Lollies (LOL).

Mouth bacteria and cells from a number of youngsters were clearly visible via our Olympus microscope, and Amanda’s longsuffering Dog “Harley” made himself available for examinations in consulting room 1.

“Guess your dogs weight” challenged a few, but some got it right and enjoyed the prize (chocolate), and Elyse’s Grooming room was also very popular with a coat care demonstration.

On behalf of the Eltham Veterinary Practice thank you all for coming – to both familiar faces and new, we know the kids had a great time and hope you did too.

We hope to see you back soon!
