Qualified Veterinary Nurse

Alex

Growing up, Alex always had a furry friend at home starting with welcoming trainee seeing eye dogs.

Growing up, Alex always had a furry friend at home. She started off by welcoming puppies into her home who were on their way to become seeing eye dogs, before eventually progressing to all different kinds of dogs to keep... This included big dogs, small dogs, anxious dogs and very loud dogs!

Alex has always adored the companionship between animals and humans and the unique understanding that we share. That love eventually led her to spend a year volunteering at Save A Dog Scheme in Malvern, where she nurtured dogs and doted on dogs that were waiting to find their forever homes. It was there that she realised just how much she loved working with animals and wanted to pursue a career where she could make a difference in their lives.

Alex's path to veterinary nursing wasn’t exactly straightforward. Shen originally spent several years working and studying in beauty therapy and in technology whilst living overseas, then towards the end of her most recent travel stint she found myself being inspired by other adult learners who had taken the leap to pursue something they were truly passionate about. She then decided it was time to do the same and took the plunge into veterinary nursing.

Having recently completed her veterinary nursing course (2026) and have loved every minute of the journey, she has found that although she has officially finished studying, she has quickly learned that in veterinary nursing, every day really is a school day! There is always something new to learn, a new case to understand, or a new skill to hone and that’s one of the things Alex loves most about the profession.

She is very grateful to have found a career that combines two things that she loves: caring for animals and continuing to learn every day.

Outside of work, you’ll usually find Alex asking someone if she can pat their cat or dog, inside a boxing gym, or in the kitchen either cooking or eating! She is a big fan of RecipeTin Eats (love you, Nagi!). She also loves exploring new places, whether that’s going for a scenic drive, finding a new hiking trail, or simply getting outside and enjoying some fresh air.
